About Communitas
Communitas Supportive Care Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families through person-centered services that promote inclusion, independence, and community participation. As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Chief Program Officer (CPO) – Communications to provide strategic leadership for communications programs, stakeholder engagement initiatives, and organizational messaging.
The Chief Program Officer serves as a member of the senior leadership team and plays a critical role in advancing organizational goals through effective communication, community engagement, and program development.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Program Officer – Communications is responsible for the strategic direction, implementation, and evaluation of communication programs and initiatives across the organization.
The successful candidate will oversee communication strategies, public relations activities, digital communications, community engagement efforts, and cross-departmental communications projects while ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the organization’s communications strategy
- Provide leadership and direction for communication-related programs and initiatives
- Collaborate with the Executive Team to support strategic priorities and organizational growth
- Monitor industry trends and emerging communication practices
- Support organizational change management and internal communications initiatives
Program Oversight
- Oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of communication programs
- Establish program objectives, performance indicators, and reporting frameworks
- Ensure communication initiatives align with organizational goals and stakeholder needs
- Manage program budgets and resource allocation
- Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, funders, government agencies, media representatives, and stakeholders
- Represent the organization at conferences, meetings, and public events
- Support community outreach and public awareness initiatives
- Strengthen organizational visibility and brand recognition
Digital Communications and Marketing
- Oversee website content, social media channels, newsletters, and digital campaigns
- Guide content development and storytelling initiatives
- Monitor communication performance metrics and analytics
- Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop communications staff and program teams
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance management activities
- Promote employee engagement and professional development
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Journalism, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or program management
- Minimum 5 years of senior management experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing organizational communication strategies
- Strong leadership, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication abilities
- Experience managing budgets and organizational resources
- Eligibility to work in Canada
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline
- Experience within nonprofit, healthcare, social services, or community services sectors
- Experience working with boards of directors, government agencies, and funding organizations
- Knowledge of digital marketing, analytics platforms, and content management systems
- Experience leading organizational change and strategic initiatives
