About Communitas
Communitas Supportive Care Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families through person-centered services that promote inclusion, independence, and community participation. We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to lead organizational communications, public engagement, and brand awareness initiatives.
The Communications Manager will play a key role in strengthening relationships with stakeholders, supporting fundraising and community engagement efforts, and ensuring consistent messaging across all communication channels.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Program Officer – Communications, the Communications Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating communication strategies that support the organization’s mission, programs, and strategic objectives.
This position oversees digital communications, media relations, content creation, internal communications, and community outreach activities.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy
- Develop and implement annual communications plans and campaigns
- Support organizational priorities through strategic communications initiatives
- Ensure consistent messaging and brand standards across all platforms
- Monitor communication trends and recommend improvements
Content Development
- Create and manage content for websites, newsletters, reports, brochures, and promotional materials
- Develop stories that highlight the impact of organizational programs and services
- Coordinate photography, video, and graphic design projects
- Ensure content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with organizational values
Digital Communications
- Manage the organization’s website and social media platforms
- Plan and execute digital campaigns to increase awareness and engagement
- Monitor website traffic, social media performance, and campaign analytics
- Optimize content for audience engagement and reach
Media and Public Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with media representatives and community partners
- Draft media releases, statements, and public communications
- Coordinate media inquiries and interview requests
- Support crisis communication planning and response activities
Internal Communications
- Support communication initiatives that promote employee engagement
- Develop internal newsletters, announcements, and organizational updates
- Assist leadership with change management communications
- Ensure employees receive timely and relevant information
Leadership and Project Management
- Coordinate communication projects across departments
- Manage communication budgets and vendor relationships
- Support and mentor communications staff, interns, and volunteers
- Track performance indicators and prepare communication reports
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of communications, public relations, or marketing experience
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Experience managing websites and social media platforms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Eligibility to work in Canada
Preferred
- Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, social services, or community services organization
- Experience with content management systems and email marketing platforms
- Knowledge of graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience managing media relations and public awareness campaigns
- Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive communication practices
